COVID Memorial in Wigmore Park

In September two members of the Friends of Wigmore Park together with representatives from Luton Borough Council met with members of Luton Council of Faiths to discuss their project to develop a Peace Garden in memory of people in the town who have died of COVID.

A tree will be planted for each one of the deaths in the meadow behind the allotments and at the bottom end of the open area beyond.  This secluded area behind the allotments will become an orchard with tall fruit trees in the centre surrounded by smaller trees, with the aim that eventually this area will have approximately 75 trees, and should the proposed development of the airport proceed, this in area of the park that will be retained as parkland.

It is anticipated that preparation of the area to receive the trees will commence later this autumn.
